Discover Your Inner Viking

Nordic and Viking Culture & Arts Festival - April 23 Viking girl

Walk through a Viking Village! See armor, weapons, and a forge! Experience Scandinavian musicians and dancers performing music of their culture! See wood carvers, silversmiths, weavers, and much more!

Karshner Center is hosting a Nordic and Viking Culture & Arts Festival, Saturday April 23, 2022, from noon to 5 pm. A Viking village will be set up to accurately demonstrate how Vikings lived. You'll see a forge making tools and swords, a quern to grind grain, Viking wood carvers, weavers, a silversmith, and more.

The Northwest Viking Alliance has been doing reenactments and teaching about Viking life for 26 years. Nordic artists will be demonstrating their art, vendors will be selling everything from Scandinavian sweaters to cards, artwork, metal work, and more.

There will be art activities for families and lots of music and dance. The Seattle Lilla Spelsmanslag, a youth fiddle group, as well as their hardingfele-focused offshot, the 3M Trio will be playing Scandinavian music with the Skandia dancers performing. Musicians from the Nordiska Folk dancers will also be performing to add to the fun. In addition to the performances, arts and crafts, handcrafted weaving, rosemaling and traditional costumes will be on exhibit from such outstanding artists as Linda Casperson and Julie Hebert. Visitors can make Viking rune artifacts, a shield, and a Viking ship to take home.
