An international day of turning passive urban parking stalls into active mini-parks comes to downtown Tacoma on Friday, September 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Due to COVID-19, our typical PARK(ing) Day event is not possible but we have the same goal: to call attention to the need for more urban open space, generate discussion and debate around how public space is utilized, and to improve the quality of urban habitat.
This year, we’ll be coming to you live from our own mini-park in downtown Tacoma where we’ll be designing, implementing and masking up for an online conversation about public space in a time of COVID-19. Topics include: open streets for restaurants and commerce, inequity in street design, open streets for transportation, and a general discussion about the importance of PARK(ing) Day. Join us via Zoom (LINK) or Facebook live for conversations every hour on the hour!
