Yaniv Attar, conductorHector Del Curto, bandoneon

Debussy (arr. Lee), Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun
Piazzolla, Aconcagua (Bandoneon Concerto)
Mussorgsky (arr. Lindberg), Pictures at an Exhibition

Each movement of Mussorgsky’s masterpiece, Pictures at an Exhibition, was inspired by a piece of artwork by Viktor Hartmann, including hatching chicks, children at play, Baba Yaga’s hut, and more. Northwest Sinfonietta is teaming up with Spaceworks Tacoma to create and incorporate new works by local artists inspired by this classic work. Bandoneon soloist Hector Del Curto joins Northwest Sinfonietta for Piazzolla’s Aconcagua for solo bandoneon, harp, piano and strings. Bandoneon is the instrument of Argentinian tango, which Astor Pizzolla mastered and revolutionized, and this concerto is arguably the ‘aconcagua’ or peak of his body of work. Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun opens the concert, casting its spell of warm sunshine and half-remembered dreams.
