A New Moon Rises is a traveling exhibition from the Smithsonian Institution, and features stunning large-scale images of the Moon’s surface, taken by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC). There are videos too of near-real-time transmissions from the LROC, and artifacts related to Washington’s role in the Space Race, such as tiny Moon rocks and photos of astronauts training in WA. We’ve brought out some artifacts from the collections that show what people thought life might be like once space travel became possible. If you’ve ever wanted to go into outer space this is an exhibit for you!
