Whether you're new to the area and want to learn more about Tacoma + Pierce County, or a long-time resident with plenty of wisdom to share, volunteering at the Visitor Information Center is a great way to promote our wonderful area while meeting people from all over the world and having fun!
The impact our volunteers make assisting both business and pleasure visitors is a significant reason why people choose to come back to Tacoma + Pierce County again and again. Tacoma Regional Convention + Visitor Bureau volunteers play a major role in the success of the organization. Volunteers provide directions; suggest special events and attractions; recommend restaurants, lodging establishments and points of interest; record visitor statistics; and help make visitors feel welcome. Volunteer training includes familiarization ["fam"] tours of area attractions and hotels. There are three main volunteer opportunities:
At the Visitor Information Center
We are glad you are interested in becoming a front desk Volunteer here at the Visitor Center. We are always glad to hear from community members who are interested in what we do and want to be a part of the "action" - and there's plenty of action here at the Visitor Center! We have over 7,000 guests a year come through our doors, wanting everything from the bathroom, to directions and accommodations, to relocation and job information. This is where our volunteers come in.
Currently, we have about 40 volunteers who give of their time and energy helping our visitors find their way in our community. These volunteers donate four hours a week on their chosen day, either from 9am - 1pm or 1 - 5pm. The volunteers have brochures, maps and all the help we can give them, so they are informed and happy. The TRCVB provides training sessions and familiarization tours which give volunteers a true understanding of all that our community has to offer.
Meet + Greet
Volunteers also staff a Meet + Greet table at major conventions in the Pierce County area. They hand out maps, visitor guides and brochures. They provide directions and make dining reservations for convention delegates.
In the Office
Volunteer opportunities are also available assisting in our office doing mailings, special projects and answering phones.
