Pierce County stretches from lower Puget Sound to Mount Rainier National Park in Western Washington.
Tacoma is our largest city with a population of nearly 200,000. It’s just 18 miles south of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and 36 miles south of Seattle on Interstate 5.
Despite the Pacific Northwest’s reputation for rain, Pierce County really isn’t all that wet. Our average rainfall is 39.9 inches [less than New York], 75 percent of which falls October through March. Typically, our driest month is July, and our wettest is December.
And our area is temperate – summer averages 70-80 degrees F., winter 40-50 degrees F. and spring/fall: 55-65 degrees F.
So visit us anytime of year! We have lots of museums, cultural attractions, historical sites, wildlife-watching opportunities and outdoor activities such as:
Walking and bicycling trails
Downhill and cross-country ski areas
Hiking and camping in local, state and federal parks
