Who We Are Puyallup -Writing, Art & Film Contest 2017-2018
The Puyallup School District, The Karshner Museum and Center for Culture & Arts, Arts Downtown and the Friends of the Karshner Museum are hosting a writing, art and film contest. Inspired by the Secretary of State’s Legacy Washington exhibit at the Karshner Museum through January 20, “Who Are We? Kaleidoscope of Washington.”
The competition’s theme is “Who We Are Puyallup.”

Essays, art or film can examine any or all of the following: What makes us Puyallup? Historically, today, or from a specific point of view? Who Am I in Puyallup? How can we make a difference? What dream do I want Puyallup to follow? What do we need to advocate for in Puyallup? Who are the extraordinary people whose stories need to be told in our community?
The essay, art and film contest is open to K-12th grade students in the Puyallup School District and adults in the Puyallup community. This exploration and analysis can be unveiled in multiple creative formats including writings, film projects or art.
A panel of judges will choose and announce a winner from each category early in 2018. Winners will be selected for grades K-6, 7-12 and an adult category.
All entries will be on display during a reception at the Karshner Museum and Center for Culture & Art during January where judging will take place.
Winners at each level in each category will be invited to a ceremony where they will be presented with special awards and prizes. Winning pieces will also be posted on the Puyallup School District’s website, and will be displayed at various venues in the City of Puyallup during the months of February and March culminating in a display at the Spring Fair during the Honoring Cultures and Diversity Celebration.
