Gig Harbor Film Festival Gears up for Annual 72 Hour Film Competition

The 2019 Gig Harbor Film Festival 72 Hour Film Competition is this month! The competition offers an opportunity for local filmmakers of all ages and skill levels to get inspired and flex their creative muscle through the art of film. 30 teams of filmmakers have signed up and are ready to share their creative genius on the IMAX screen on March 24!

Filmmakers compete within the age categories of 13 and Under, 14-18, and 19 and Up. On Thursday March 14 at 6pm, team leaders will receive their assignment email revealing the set of required elements that must be included in each film. The filming period will then officially begin and continue throughout the weekend. All footage must be shot within this official 72 hour period and submitted to the Gig Harbor Film Festival by 6pm on Sunday, March 17.

On March 24 at 2pm, completed entries will be screened before a live audience in high quality projection at the IMAX Theatre, Uptown Gig Harbor. Awards will be presented that day for the best film in each age group, best actor, best ensemble, and many more. A cash prize will be awarded to the best overall film of the competition.

GHFF director Jenny Wellman remarks that “Last year’s competition was so enthusiastically well-attended, we decided to completely upgrade our screening and awards reception space to adequately accommodate this year’s expected crowd. This kind of community-wide support for this event and its participants is truly the kind of heartwarming response we dream of, and makes doing what we do so very rewarding”.
