If Harmon Brewing Company were a person, they’d only have to wait one more year before they could legally drink a pint of Pt. Defiance IPA. But we’ll give them a pass and raise a glass this week, as they celebrate 20 years of being pure Pierce County. Want to talk about vision? Owner Pat Nagle had Harmon brewing craft beer back in 1997, before craft breweries were everywhere (it was the first craft brewery/restaurant combo in downtown Tacoma), and before Tacoma was the destination it is today.

This week, Harmon is celebrating its 20th with Oktoberfest activities and specials all week, with the highlight being their 20th Annual Brew Master Dinner this Thursday, Oct. 5 at 6:30 p.m. Call (253) 383-2739 for reservations.

And that’s just the appetizer for a weekend of Oktoberfest Northwest fun at the Washington State Fairgrounds in Puyallup. As Washington’s largest Munich-style Oktoberfest celebration, there will be singing, dancing, bocce, beer, brats and wiener-dog races. On top of that, the celebration is completely family-friendly until 6 p.m. each evening, at which point the polka gets louder, the IDs come out, the German biers flow freer and the designated drivers are smiled upon by all.
