Although it'd still be a bargain at twice the price, the $25-per-car entry fee for Mount Rainier National Park can feel as steep as the mountain itself.
However, with free days spread throughout the year, you should be able to avoid breaking the bank on your winter snowshoeing weekend, your spring waterfall exploration, your summer wildflower hikes or your mountainside walks through the fall colors.
The four free days in 2018 are:
- January 15: Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- April 21: Beginning of National Park Week
- September 22: National Public Lands Day
- November 11: Veterans Day
