The first visitors to what is now Crystal Mountain came seeking fortunes, not fresh snow. Traces of gold were found in the hills of the Cascades in the late 1800s, and prospectors flocked to the area (which was originally known as the Summit Mining District).

…or they will be soon. Washington might be The Evergreen State, but despite the forests filled with firs and pines, thankfully there are some places where the leaves do change color with the seasons.
